View Full Version : Error - The settings could not be opened - on MPx220

I keep having the same problem over and over. My MPx220 phone works fine, then I get the "Error. The settings could not be opened." when I try to launch control panel settings, like edit a Profile, open Date and Time, open the Home Screen settings, open Regional Settings, Remove Programs, etc. A soft reset does nothing, I have no choice but to do a hard reset. I've done this 4 times now, it's getting very frustrating.
The last time I did not install Power Calendar, as a test. I did not have this problem for a couple weeks. I just installed Power Calendar 2.61 and the problem is back. Now I can't even uninstall it. Before I do another hard reset and ask for a refund, any ideas?

are you using a .exe file or the CAB file to download? Are you trying to load the program to a memory card? What other programs do you have installed on your Smartphone?

Hi Karrie,
I've installed using both the EXE and the CAB, the last time I used the EXE. I've always installed to the phone, not the card. The install says it's successful and Power Calendar works fine.
The other programs I typically have installed are:
- Ilium eWallet
- Ilium ListPro
- Fizz Traveller
Since the last hard reset, Power Calendar is the only app I installed. I don't think I installed the home screen plugin but I can't remember for sure.
I need to do another hard reset, so let me know if there's anything you want check before I do that.
Thanks,
Marty

The only thing I can think of is to remove the device battery, put it back and install a fresh CAB file from our web page (not a file that has been saved on your desktop that may have become corrupted),

I shut down the phone, removed the battery and powered up. I've been downloading the file each time, I'm not keeping a saved copy. I tried to install again but it fails. I can't remove any programs either, nothing works but launching programs.
Even if it did install, I'm not sure if you understand the problem, how is reinstalling Power Calendar supposed to fix problems with Windows Mobile? Microsoft support says the registry is corrupt and the device needs a hard reset. They say this is usually caused by bad application installs. So I started installing my apps one at a time to see when the problem occurs. After the last hard reset I didn't install any apps for a couple days and everything worked. The only app I installed was Power Calendar and the problem is back.

We have had other users running Power Calendar on the MPx220 without any problems. It looks like you purchased at the end of June, were you always having this trouble or did it just start in September? Did you make any changes to the phone prior to the problem occurring?

This problem has been ongoing since about June or July, but it took me a while to track it down. I don't know what you are asking by "Did you make any changes to the phone prior to the problem occurring?". Like I've said before, I've done multiple hard resets and the problem goes away and then comes back. After the last hard reset I only installed Power Calendar, and made no changes to the phone settings.
I did a hard reset 3 days ago and everything is working fine. I've done several soft resets and made changes to the phone settings, but I have not installed any apps yet. I will start installing them one by one and wait a few days in between. The last time I installed Power Calendar first and immediately the problem appeared, this time I won't install Power Calendar at all and see if the problem comes back.

When I asked "Did you make any changes to the phone prior to the problem occurring?" I was trying to find out if Power Calendar was sucessfully running for a time period and then something else was installed just before you noticed the problem. Please let us know what you find out as you reinstall your applications.

I left Power Calendar off and the thing ran fine for 20 days (which was a first). Now the hardware totally died and won't boot past the Motorola splash screen. So a warranty replacement is on the way, not sure if I'll install Power Calendar on the new device or not, I'm sick of messing with this.
