View Full Version : So Slooooooow...

On my T-Mobile Dash, the program is extremely slow. Waited a little over 30 seconds trying to get the month view to display, but the spinning 'wait' windows thing was all I got. The program wasn't locked up, I was able to switch to a different view.
The contact portion was also sluggish. Very strange that the contact picures on the left did not correspond to the contacts on the right -- both scrolled independantly of one another, an odd design choice. On first glance, it looks as though the contact pictures aren't matched correctly.
The contact section is just a layer on top of the built in app, something uneccesary that just uses more resources (and this app uses a lot). If you're going to do contacts, completely do them -- give me a contact screen that shows me their address, and primary phone numbers without have to scroll down. The built in contact app is fine, Agenda1's layer on top of it is more a hinderance than a feature.
Definitely in it's early stages, and way behind Papyrus in terms of functionality and speed.

Thank you for your feedback, are you using mostly recurring appointments with lots of icons?
The contact photo pictures on a landscape screen can be a bit confusing at first, (on a portrait screen they are displayed at the top) but we think once you get used to it you will enjoy having to only scroll through contacts with photos to dial by contact photo.
We have not experienced any delays like that. Would you be willing to send us a support e-mail from your device? This would help us better reproduce the latency/search results issue you are reporting. In your e-mail, please also indicate that your forum name is "chaznet". From the About Screen, (Options > View All Options > About Agenda One) you can select Menu > Contact support and you will be prompted to select your e-mail client. This email is pre-filled with many details that will help us replicate your issue and understand your configuration. This includes device model, memory, number of items you have in your outlook database, etc.
You will also notice that an agendaone.dat file is automatically attached. This file contains your Agenda One option settings. With this we can easily reproduce your exact Agenda One setup to more quickly answer your questions or solve your problems. (we will put your settings file on a similar device so that we are working with the same settings you have.)
This file contains only options settings, and does not contain data such as contacts, tasks or calendar items.
If you do not want to send this attachment it may be deleted. For the fastest response to your inquiries, we urge that you leave this file included.
The faster we can confirm an issue, the quicker we can schedule the necessary updates.

Think there is something wrong with the forum board. Have tried posting twice yesterday and nothing shows up. Will try again.
I also find this a great piece of software, except that it is slow in loading up appointments in Month View. Why does it take so long and does it everytime the view is switched?
I also noticed that the option of making text the same as category colors do not work. Nothing happens, the text is the same as default.
Others have already posted that Contacts does not seem to work in Treo 750v. Very, very slow to load and freeze when trying to search.

A new build was just released that resolves the Contact speed/search issues.
http://www.developerone.com/agendaone/download.htm
It is also available via Check for Updates if you have registered Agenda One.
One thing that may speed up your Month view is turning off Contact Events (under Calendar Settings) if this is a feature you do not really use. We do refresh the Month View every time you switch to it in case new items were added via Push or while you were in a different view.
If you want to Color by Category set Text Color under Global Settings to Color by Category. Hope this helps!

Just downloaded the new version to try, but some of the problems are still there. The contacts view loads quicker and no longer hangs when I search, well done.
However, I turned off contacts event (not even sure what it is) and the month view, while loading slightly quicker, is still slow and is annoying in that in real life usage, there is a significant pause when you switch to this view to see if you can schedule in an appointment. This is particularly apparent when I am trialling this program against, Pocket Informant Calendar and Supercalendar, although I can tell you that your logic and user interface (as it relates to one handed operation) is far superior than the other programs....it's just the speed that is keeping me buying this.
I also make sure that I selected the Global option of text using Category colors but this doesn't seem to work. All the text remain either black or blue. Any ideas?

With regard to the Month View speed, How many appointments do you on your device? If you use the use the 'Contact Support' option from the Agenda One 'About' screen on your mobile device you can send us an e-mail that has that data.
On the Text Coloring, It sounds like those items do not have a Category assigned or that Category may not have a color assigned to it, in which case it would use the default color.

Just double checked on Category colors, you are right, they have not been assigned. Not sure why that happened as I did assign them when I first downloaded your software to try.

In addition to my previous reply that says color text is now working, I found that if I reset the device the information on category color is also reset and will have to be put in again.

Having now used this for almost a week, I think you have great product. The ease of one handed operation is by far the best and most intuitive of the competing products; however, the speed issue is really holding me back.
I don't mind if the initial loading of the program takes a little bit longer but while it is in memory, can it not read and update from calendar in the background so that when you switch to Month view, it is more or less instantaneous? I have tried your suggestion of switching off contact event, I presume this is birthdays and anniversaries, but it still doesn't really help, although in an ideal world, I would want those dates marked in my calendar as well. Given I have about 1300 contacts and on average 3-4 appointments per day, this shouldn't be too much of a burden for the program.
If you can improve on the speed, then I am definitely on board.

This should not happen if you exit Agenda One prior to resetting. If you were to change/add colors and then soft reset without first exiting Agenda One it may be possible that you could lose some settings.

Some how, the competitive products on the market, like PI Calendar, seems to be able to load this much quicker but their product is not as user-friendly as yours.

Thanks for the data file, it is helpful to include your Forum Name in the e-mail so it is easier for us to link e-mail address to this thread. Your Contacts seem to be the only large data set so if you have already turned off Contact events (you may want to verify this) the only other thing that seems to be happening is that every time you load the month view it builds the view from scratch. There are several reasons we do this, one is to check for any new items that may have been added or synched since the view was last loaded and another is so that we are not holding on to large blocks of memory. So even though the month view may take a bit longer to load each time it guarantees you always have the most accurate and up to date information. We favor this to caching a stale view that gives the "appearance" of better performance.

I have noticed recently that the contact search is slower to respond and is very sluggish. I would say maybe within the last upgrade of A1. When I switch to contacts from another view I can d-pad up and down almost instantly. If I type out james it take approx 15 seconds to respond and filter down the view. If I only type 1 letter it still takes the 15 seconds of lag to respond.
I am using a Treo 750v and have been since December 2006.
Windows Mobile 6
Agenda One version 1.5.5693
I have approx. 2300 contacts and have only added a handful 20-30 in the last 3 months.
I hope these details help.
I know that Developer One has went out of their way to tweak the contact search and the speed of this feature. I have been very pleased with this up till now. I quote A1 as the best windows mobile PIM on the market and the asiest to use.
Could you please check on this.
Thanks

Have you recently updated the ROM on your device to Windows Mobile 6?
Were you running a previous version of Agenda One on this device with Windows Mobile 6? If yes, which one?
