View Full Version : Program Closes Abruptly, Without Warning

I am currently trying (before buying) Power Calendar with my Motorola MPX220. I have been an Agenda Fusion user for quite some time and am addicted to your products :-)

I'm running into a fatal problem which will prevent me from buying the program - hopefully you can help.

Periodically, the program will close out after less than 1 minute of use (I could be actively entering data and I'll suddenly be returned to my home screen). When this happens, the ONLY way to resolve the situation is to power cycle my phone.

I don't have a problem like this with ANY other program installed. In addition, this sometimes occurs when I've only had the phone on for a few minutes. I'm not getting any error of any kind - just the program mysteriously closing.

Any guess as to what might be happening?

Greetings,
This is the first time we've heard of such an issue related to Power Calendar.

Is it consistent in the way that this happens?
Does it always abnormally close?
Only when editing or performing a specific action?

Anything that might help us try to repeat the issue would be of help.

Thank you,

I am going to suggest this is related to the automatic "memory management" of the OS. I suspect that PowerCalendar has implemented the check for available memory and when it goes below a certain point the program automatically removes itself from memory. I find this annoying since it will happen while I am entering a calendar record or task item. It should not remove itself while you are in it.

My two cents worth...

Rob.

Only when editing or performing a specific action? It's consistent in that the program usually shuts down in the middle of my using it. I could be browsing through calendar entries, entering text in a new appointment or task, or just hovering on an agenda screen and not pressing any buttons. Within around 10-15 seconds of opening the program, I find myself thrown back to the home screen. Every once in a while it works fine, but usually not. Once I've experienced the problem, the only way I can get around it is to power cycle the phone.

If this theory is correct, there must be a major memory "leak" associated with the program.

I checked my memory status right before running the program at one point this evening.

Flash - Device storage - 8.73MB used, 23.79MB free
RAM - Program memory - 12.2MB used, 9.35MB free
RAM - Storage memory - 534.89KB used, 889.11KB free
(and, even though it isn't all that relevant, I also have over 150MB free on my MiniSD card)

If the program is shutting down because it fell below a memory threshhold, either the trigger point is too high, or the program is sucking massive amounts of memory.

Thoughts?

Perhaps I can send you a release that would put out information to help let us know if it is exiting intentionally due to low memory detection.

I use this program all of the time with quite a lot of data in the calendar and I typically don't reset/power cycle the device.

I'm certain we can figure out the cause of it, and if you do not mind, I would like to send you a copy that will be able to log this information.

Thank you,

Exactly the same thing happens to me on my Orange SPV C500. I've just bought the software and this has made it un-useable. I hope a fix is found soon; I'm willing to help with testing.

Hi Austin, we are trying hard to look into this.
We have the latest devices here and with quite a bit of information synced to them are still not seeing the same issues, but will certainly try to figure out what's going on.

I would be more than happy to run a diagnostic version to help solve this problem - just let me know where I can download this version (or email it to me)

Thanks!

I still haven't heard from anyone re: getting a "diagnostic" version of PowerCalendar re: the above...

Still waiting...

On my Orange C500 the program shows the same behaviour. I don't have to reboot my phone to be able to use the program after a crash.

I don't see a patern in this behaviour.

We've just put online needed updates to address this issue where the applications would exit without any user intervention.

The latest downloads for these products are here:

http://www.developerone.com/powercalendar/download.htm

http://www.developerone.com/powertasks/download.htm

Some changes to Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition from earlier versions caused some unexpected behaviors and the handling of them, and did not appear to be consistent on every device running WM 2003 SE, so it took a bit longer to test and be confident that the solution we had was the correct one.

We thank you for your patience.

Please download these latest updates to resolve this issue.

Thank you and Happy Holidays!

After recently purchasing the powercalendar software on my Motoral MP phone, I can now no longer start the program. I have been able to use the program after registration already. When selected on my mobile, the program opens briefly (just the header changing to 'power calender') and then back to the programs menu. Sometimes it keeps 'hanging' with an empty screen.

I have installed already tried uninstalling the program and reinstalling with the latest downloads available on your site.

I have had exactly the same problem with the code wallet program (which I would like to test before purchase). I have not yet been able to run that one at all yet.

Your assistance much appreciated. Brgds,
