With the latest version of Agenda One at the top of my contact list are pictures from my speed dial list on the Today page, is this supposed to occur?

Yes, the photos are part of the program, if you do not want them to show, then change the setting: When in the Contacts view, choose Menu, Show Picture Bar - set to NO.
