There is not a way to set the default category, but one tip you could try if you had a number of tasks or appointments to create in a category such as Business . Set a Category filter for Business, and then every task or appointment you create while that filter is on will contain the Business category by default. If you changed the category filter to Kids then every task or appointment you create while that filter is on will contain the Kids category.
