View Full Version : Yet another "can't delete categories" problem

Device: Samsung Blackjack II
AgendaOne version: 2.3.9039 (still in trial with 14 days left)

Attempting to delete categories does nothing. I've tried deleting them from the "Manage Categories" screen in the master options menu. I've also tried deleting them from the "Select Categories" screen while creating a new task.

Selecting delete does not delete the category. The category remains in the categories list. I have searched the forums and found other people with the same problem. I have tried the suggestions in each of those threads namely:
1) Ensure that none of the categories are currently assigned to any appointments/tasks/contacts
2) Soft reset the device

I am quite sure that 1) is not the case because I have not created any appointments, contacts, or tasks as this is a brand new phone. Plus, I cannot delete newly created categories. I have also tried deleting the categories then soft resetting. When I return to AgendaOne, I find the categories to still be there.

This is a brand new Blackjack II that I bought for the expressed purpose of combining my phone with my organizer. I was very happy to find AgendaOne to fulfill most of my organizing needs. It is an intuitive and responsive piece of software, but I am very disappointed that this basic functionality doesn't work. If this issue cannot be resolved, I may have to unfortunately look elsewhere for smartphone organizer software.

We have that same device and we are not able to duplicate the issue, if there are no items assigned to a category name, then it always allows the category to be deleted. Have you assigned Time Based filtering or anything to that category? Is that category maybe on some data that was sync'd to the device from your PC? This is not a bug in the software, it is a limitation of the operating system that you cannot delete a category if data is linked to it.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

No, I have not messed with any of the Time-based filters. I do not have Outlook installed on my PC so the categories would not have been assigned to some task because of syncing.

I am absolutely positive that the categories I'm trying to delete are not associated with any tasks/appointments/contacts. In fact, I can create a brand new category then immediately attempt to delete it to no avail.

BTW I have installed a trial version of a competitor's PIM software (which I shall not name publicly, but I'll tell you if you want to PM me) that allows me to successfully delete categories. It even deletes the categories that were created by AgendaOne. So this does not seem to be an OS limitation.

I would much rather use AgendaOne than this other PIM because AgendaOne's UI is much, much more responsive. I will promptly switch back if this issue can be resolved!
